David Geffen is possibly, maybe vain – definitely gay

The Sun is reporting that Carly Simon has revealed the subject of her classic hit You’re So Vain. Initially thought to be one of her past flames, Mick Jagger, Kris Kristofferson, Cat Stevens or Warren Beatty, it turns out that the song is really about gay record industry mogul David Geffen.

The revelation comes from a whispered name in one of the versions Simon recorded. When played backwards it reveals the name David.

I’m not sure how real all of this is since the article doesn’t have a quote from Carly Simon herself and she’s only told a handful of people. Since some of those people have paid large sums of money to find out who the song is about, I’d be pretty pissed if I were one of them and she revealed the secret after that.
